Tips for Adding Years to your Pet’s Life

Pets are like a part of your family and you want them to have long and enjoyable lives. There are over 78 million owned dogs and over 86 million owned cats in the United States, proving that Americans love pets. If you are one of those lucky millions to have a pet, there are a few ways you can make sure they live long healthy lives.

1) Investigate their Food

Many pet owners feed their cats and dogs the same thing every day. What they may not realize is that this habit can lead to nutritional deficiencies and food intolerances. Jodi Ziskin, a holistic nutrition and wellness specialist for pets, recommends using a holistic approach to your pet’s diet. This means using real, whole food instead of by-products. rendered ingredients, and artificial flavors.

2) Consider giving them Supplements puppy

There are many factors that contribute to a pet’s lifespan, some of which we cannot control. However, Ziskin says that providing them with a species appropriate diet that includes supplements like omega-3s can contribute to their overall wellness. Omega-3 fatty acids has many health benefits for pets, including healthy skin and coat, joint health with less inflammation, strong immune system, and a healthier digestive tract.

3) Prioritize Play and Rest

Exercise is extremely important to the physical health of your pets. Just the act of walking your dog will help lubricate joints, preserve flexibility, maintain muscle mass, and keep their blood circulating. Make time every day to play with your pets. Cats only need five or ten minutes of interactive play twice a day. Rest is just as important as physical activity. Petting your dog or cat while you relax with them can help reduce their stress levels and make them feel secure.

In addition to these tips, be sure to have regular visits with your pet’s veterinarian to help them stay healthy and live long lives.
